Hurricane Chapter - Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI)

The Hurricane Chapter members convened at the historic Tamiami Trail just west of the heart of Miami in Coral Gables.  The Tampa-Miami (Tamiami) Trail was and still is (for the most part) a two-lane U.S. highway.   Tampa to Miami (Tamiami) Trail was and still is (for the most part) a two-lane U.S. highway started in 1915 and completed in 1926.   Highway 41 (its official designation) takes you 120 miles across the southern tip of Florida to Naples where it turns north to dump you in downtown Clearwater on the beach after cutting through Tampa.     Until the early 1960's,  Highway 41 and US 1 (running north south from Key West to Maine) were the only way out of Miami, a sleepy little town at the mouth of the Miami River spilling into Biscayne Bay and then into the Florida Straits.   I-75 wasn't done until the mid-1980's

On the Tamiami Trail where it crosses LeJeune in Coral Gables (SW42 Ave) there is Uncle Tom's BBQ.   Built in 1948 it still stands with it's original sign and original menu though it has changed owners a couple times now.     Uncle Tom's is our diner on our version of Route 66.    Pretty cool!

So that's where we gathered this month.  Here are 29 pictures.     See you in August for the road trip to Naples, Florida.   On the Tamiami Trail, of course!
