Summer Cruise-in III

August 12, 2006
Fort Lauderdale to Naples (and back), Florida

Hurricane Chapter - Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI)

Last month the Tamiami Trail.  This month Aligator Alley.  It's about 100 miles when you cross the southern tip of Florida, from east to west, on I-75.   Yup, it's a 100 miles back on the return trip too.

The Hurricane Chapter members convened in the Tower Shops parking lot and headed west to Naples.  There we would meet with our sister chapter.  The Everglades Chapter.

Alligator Alley for most of it's life was just a narrow two-lane road connecting the booming east coast with our sleepy west coast.

By the mid-1980's,  Uncle Sam poured enough concrete on top of Alligator Alley to then call it "Interstate 75."    It's a four-lane wonder now except for all the unmarked troopers.   Thankfully for us,  they only seemed to bother those nearing 100mph.    We cruised at a lazy 70mph!

So that's where we gathered this month:  Naples, Florida

Here are 32 pictures.     See you back in on the east coast for our September cruise-in at TGI Friday's in Hollywood.
